Principal’s Message
St Fiacre’s Catholic Primary School Leichhardt is a small, nurturing community established by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1886. Our sense of community and welcome, are prominent features of our school.
Our Josephite and Franciscan traditions support our school agreements of being responsible, respectful, welcoming, and safe.
Our mission is to grow together in faith, learning, and care by building upon our rich Catholic heritage and traditions, and by working closely with our parish community to foster a challenging, relevant, and inclusive learning environment for all of our children.
We provide our students with a range of learning opportunities and extracurricular experiences, all within spacious, flexible, and innovative contemporary learning spaces to ignite the imagination of every student. We equip our students with the best resources and our teachers with ongoing professional development so that each child is known and understood. Our differentiated teaching programs ensure that we cater to all children as individuals, according to their varied learning needs. Through our Newman Selective Gifted Education Program, we challenge and augment the learning for our higher-ability students.
Our outdoor area is a wonderful space that sparks the imaginations of our children, providing them with various play areas, equipment, and a beautiful prayer garden for reflection.
We welcome you to join our learning and faith community. I invite you to contact the school office to join us for a tour of our school and meet our wonderful students and staff.

History
St Fiacre’s Catholic Primary School Leichhardt is a one-stream systemic school for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6. It was first established by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1886, in the sanctuary of the present church. Less than ten years later, a separate school building was constructed and so began a long tradition of Catholic education. The school was led by the sisters until 1984 when they passed the leadership to the laity. In 1946 the Franciscan Capuchin Priests were given the pastoral care of the parish.
In 2013, St Fiacre’s undertook major refurbishment resulting in warm, bright, and inviting learning spaces to accommodate our present stage-based learning. Outside our school reflects its long and proud history of Catholic education, while inside you will find contemporary, spacious classrooms.
Again in 2017, the school undertook a refurbishment to develop a larger and brighter library learning centre, Kindergarten classroom, meeting room, and administration office.
Charism
Linking the Josephite (Mary MacKillop), Franciscan charisms, and St Fiacre, brought to the school a set of common values and a collective understanding of where we have come from, that makes us who we are today, to guide us in our direction for the future.
Faith Love Service Compassion Stewardship
In partnership with families and parish, we at St Fiacre’s:
Growing Together In Faith, Learning and Care
As a Christ-centred community, and in partnership with families and parish, we inspire and nurture our students to:
- act with faith
- serve with love and compassion
- be stewards of God’s creation
- embrace a culture of thinking and learning
in the spirit of our patron St Fiacre and founded on the Josephite and Franciscan charisms.
Prayer and Liturgy are an integral part of school life. The children regularly participate in Masses and Liturgies and we gather together for school prayer every day. St Fiacre’s Catholic Primary School Leichhardt enjoys a close relationship with our parish, and parish family Masses are celebrated throughout the year as a faith community.
